‘Yangdong-village’, Gyeongju

Setting off for Yangdong-village located at the end of Gyeongju, Korea..

We arrived at Yangdong-village before long from Pohang because it’s near the end of Gyeongju.

We were so amazed when getting closed to and seeing the entrance of Yangdong-village.

Frankly, I didn’t expect that the village is perfectly equipped with the old days because I heard that it’s the government-designated village that the people are still living in.

But the appearance of Yangdong-village is totally furnished as boasting look of the past.

In December 20th 1984, the whole of Yangdong-villages is designated as government-designated village.

Today, here, Yandong-village seems enough to knock me out by stimulating my curiosity.

From now on, I’m going to invite myself to Yangdong-village.



I could see one little store as soon as I get into the entrance of the village.

But the thing that amazed me is not the store it was a huge tree looked like keeping the store.

It appeared as if it lives at least several hundred years, so I could know how well Yangdong-village is preserved since long ago.

I exactly blinked two times widely when I passed the tree then walked into the village.

The gorgeous spectacle fascinated my eyes.

Here is the place where you can experience Korea traditional paper crafts (Hanji knitting crafts) and eat traditional foods.

Only watching is good, however it’s better to touch and craft the Korea traditional paper yourself, also experience Korea traditional foods, then you can feel that you are getting closed to the country, Korea with a heart.

You can see this only in Korea. We call it as Jangdokdae that can preserve foods.

In the Jangdokdae, there are Korea traditional fermented condiments such as doenjang (soy bean paste), soy sauce, gochujang(red papper paste) and etc, also there is famous food, Kimchi of Korea.

Here is the way to Simsujung.

While I was walking an old road of Korea, It looked like my mind becoming peaceful and worries gone.

This is a Daecheong floor (bamboo floor).

Although this summer is very hot, I don’t need any fan or air conditioner while I’m sitting on the Daecheong floor.

It was very nice that I could see everything with the opened view at a look.

In here, Yangdong-village, you can be lodged.

This room you are watching is one of the smallest rooms where you can sleep.

The room is so neat and folksy, isn’t it?

Watching the room, I would like to have stayed one night.

Many foreigners are coming here due to Korean style and folksy room.

Also, you can taste traditional tea, Korean cuisine, Korean style boiled chicken, traditional alcohol in here.

Especially, Bibimbab is the most popular dish.

Next, I quickly moved to famous Soebackdang where the prince Charles visited in 1992.

I felt as though I was watching an ink-and-wash painting when I saw the scenery.

The landscape of Yangdong-village which was well in harmony with old houses, cottages and spectacle was beautiful beyond description.

I was so engrossed in Yangdong-village that I didn’t notice the time. Finally, when leaving here, I looked back Yangdong-village many times because I felt that something was missing.
