'Samkangjumak', 'Yonggung-market', Yecheon

After I visited Andong Hahoe-village, I’ve knew Korea’s old days is so beautiful and impressed.

The way to next destination, Yecheon, The landscapes made by blue sky and dark natural color was amazing.

The Korea’s nature looks like drawing breath.

As soon as we get to Yecheon, firstly, we went to ‘Samkangjumak(Samkang-tavern)’ designated fork material number 134 and also having 100 years of history.

As soon as I get into the Samkangjumak, as we say the Korea's old rest area, I cannot help being afraid that the tavern was well preserved and restored.

Here, Samkangjumak is located at Yecheon-kun Pungyang-myeon where the three streams that nakdong-river, naesung-stream and Kum-stream flow together, so it was called Samgang(means three river) Jumak(means tavern).

Since long ago, where these three streams meet had been naturally constructed with docks and well developed.

This Samkang-naru(Samkang-dock) was used for a traveler who were hungry, peddler who want to take care of room and board, troubadour and etc.

This place become more famous because we can say that the Korea’s last Jumo(barmaid), Yuokyun grandmother was worked here.

Yuokyun grandmother who succeeded to the Jumak maintained over the hundred years as a second owner. After that, she was called as ‘the last Nakdonggang barmaid’ famous for her generosity to the number of guests during fifty years before she died in last October, 2005.

The picture above is the only picture preserved in Jumak.

The ‘Hwehwa-tree’ at the back of the Jumak looks like showing the time passed.

I tried to look in Samgangjumak. I heard that after it had been restored newly, it turned into the place where can do all sorts of experience and eat something.

Here is the kitchen. They are still using a lot of furniture used by Yuokyun grandmother, so I felt I was in the past.

I went out to Samgangnaru which stands at the back of Samgangjumak. Under that Nakdong-river is running in cool, at the back, the beautiful mountain was spread out.

It was natural contour that watching the natural spectacle at the Samkangnaru where we couldn’t see in the city.

After looking around samkangjumak, I walked through long streches of bamboo forest.

The fresh air was blowing between the bamboos.

I felt it made my exhausted body diverted and comfort from the hot weather

I turned my steps to Yonggung-market still keeping Korea's unique atmosphere up to now, and famous for the old market at a bystreet.

I didn't know that I had passed the lunch time while I was looking around the Yecheon's beautiful sights. after got into the car, I realized how hungry I was.

As soon as I arrived at Yonggung-market, I tried to find the place where I was able to have a late lunch and entered one restaurant.

Here is the famous restaurant named 'dangolsikdang'(means the favorite restaurant) in Yecheon.

Even though the lunch time was a little bit passed, there were so many customers like a well-known restaurant.

I seated at an empty table and ordered the most delicious food that well-known in here, ‘Dangolsikdang’.

It’s the squid bulgogi, sundae and pork soup with rice.

Doesn’t it look so delicious? Many foreign tourists also visit here frequently because the foods suit their taste well.

It was so delicious, so I finished it shortly.

After enjoyed meal, I looked around Younggung-market.

The old stores caught my eyes. It’s maybe because of old Korea’s market byway.

The figures of store could be shabby than these days mart or supermarket, but I could feel more warmth and humanity.

Above all, firstly, I visited brewery where they make Korea’s traditional alcoholic drink, ‘Makgeolli’ on their own hand.

I could aware of the passing of time by appearance only.

As soon as I got into the entrance, the smell of Makgeolli, Korea’s traditional alcoholic drink made my nose choked up.

This good and stinging smell also made my nice.

I was so wandered because nowadays, the alcoholic drinks are made by machine, but I thought how it is different made by on their own hand.

Just at the moment, the owner of brewery entered.

He found out me and gave me Makgeolli by pouring thick Makgeolli into a small nickel silver bowl with a saying “why don’t you drink little?”.

Greatly I finished the bowl of Makgeolli after saying “thank you”.

I didn’t know what is different between making it by a machine and by hand, but I could know it was cool and delicious.

So, I could know a little why it is famous between foreigners nowadays.

After getting out the brewery and crossing the street, I enter into an oil factory making sesame oil.

As soon as standing in front of the factory, the good smell of sesame oil tickled my nose.

The inside of factory was keeping Korea’s old figure well.

I was amazed continually whenever I was watching the stuffs of factory.

So I felt as if I’m in the history museum.

While I was getting out Younggung market, I wished the old unique market street of Korea is to be well preserved to the future.

I thought I wanted to give a good chance to feel Korea market, specially, who are going to visit here.

Let me summarize the travel. I could feel Korea’s unique and it was filled with the fragrance of Korea.

With my intending to introduce the short trip in Yaechun, thinking as it was so great trip and could be very helpful to my several foreign friends, I was getting back to my home.

Hahoe-village, Andong

The morning to Hahoe-village, An-dong!

Different to my worrying yesterday, I felt so good because the weather was so clear.

I thought that I’ve got a invitation from the weather welcoming me.

Now, I’m going to introduce the hahoe-village of Korea shortly.

I can say that Gyeongsangbuk-Do Andong region is not only the repository which is keeping various cultural heritages and histories of Korea but also the center where the mental of our people is standing.

I’m going to depart the place where history and culture of Korea is still breathing.

I can’t explain everything with my words because I’m so upset and happy before my journey.

I’ll start now.

Same as Yangdong-village in Gyeongju I introduced, Hahoe-village, An-dong was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage property.

I could see hwehwa marketplace after getting into the village entrance.

As soon as I entered I thought ‘I’m truly at Hahoe-village.

A considerable number of foreigners are trying to visit Hahoe-village.

After it designated as a UNESCO World Heritage property, the number of foreigners visiting Hahoe-village is quietly increased.

Here is Hwakyeongdang(north village)

Hwakyeongdang means serve your parents and king well.

As soon as I was getting into the house of Hwakyeongdang, I was surprised by scale of the house.

Like a wealthy family, it was so huge and grand. Many visitors from out of countries said ‘surprised’ continuously.

Also Hwakyeongdang is perfectly equipped with the formality about Yangban(Korea noble man) and I could see aspects of nobility clearly visiable.

At the back of Hwakyeongdang detached house, I was able to see the huge pine tree being as large as house. It was so giant and beautiful.

Next is Hahoebyulsinguttal-playing Junsoo-hall.

Today is the day when Hahoebyulsinguttal-playing performance will be shown.

While amazed by many people, I found that I missed something.

The reason is that there is a roof without a ceiling.

It was so impressed that they are performing without artificial illumination but with wonderful natural illumination.

With the sound of Korea traditional instrument, the performance had been started.

Many foreigners and Koreans were upset with their clapping and cheering.

While all of Koreans and visitors were clapping together with same beat, I felt the world becoming together through Hahoe-village and the Koreans traditional dance, Hahoebyulsinguttal-playing.

It was so beautiful, so I almost l lost my conscious.

Here now I’m going to explain something about 'Byulsingut'. The word, ‘Byul’ means ‘strange’, ‘unusual’ and ‘sin’ means 'god', so this performance is made by residents who want to cheer up the god making village richer and to avoid the god’s anger.

This Byulsingut is Korea’s one of important intangible cultural asset as number 69th and one of the oldest tal-playing’.

Here is Buyoungdae in which we can see whole village at a glance.

Buyoungdae is a cliff located at an altitude of 65m next to Kwangduk-li bamboo forest that across of the northwest of Gyeongsangbuk-Do Andong-city Pungchun-myun Hahoe-li Hahoe-village.

When I’m standing this cliff, I could see the Nakdong-river flowing with the “s” shape by surrounding Hahoe-village.

Because of this appearance, the name of Hahoe-village was born.

I wasn’t able to take my eyes off the spectacles because the weather and background was so nice.

Peoples couldn’t avoid taking pictures by using this surrounds to their background.

On the way, The awesome Hahoetal(Hahoe-mask) was displayed with lined up.

I took some funny and unusual tourist’s pictures.

I cannot but be amazed.

I was in admiration of the wonderful and brilliant scene by saying ‘wow’.

The scene of Hahoe-village was as pretty as a picture.

While I was watching Hahoe-village I felt that I’m in a wonderful work of art.

The village gave me a precious present as much as I wished to get every detail sight scenes in my camera.

This travel in Andong made me soaked from the indescribable beautiful.

For me, the travel, here will be remained for a long time in my heart.

With the thinking of the next travel spot, Yaechun, I felt sad and joyful.

Like that I headed to my hotel, leaving the most Korean style village, Hahoe-village, An-dong.
