First Trip- Guryong Po , Homigot

Here, It’s so hot in South of Korea!

The summer of Gyeongsangbuk-Do located at south-east Korea is very hot as much as the sweat coming out motionless. In this hot weather, the blue ocean and the white wave are perfect.

So, my first Gyeongbuk(gyeongsangbuk-Do) outing is decided at Guryoung-Po described as tail of Korea looking like tiger.
Here we go!

Guryong-Po is mixed well with scenic beauty through the east sea and the coast road, which was named by the nine dragons ascending to heaven with a huge clap of thunder long time ago in the Silla period of King Jinheung, so it is called “The port where nine dragons are ascended to heaven”

But today’s Guryoung-Po received me with a tranquil and quiet first impression different from the day history said.

There is a famous Korea proverb “Watching Kumkangsan is better after eating something”. (“a loaf of bread is better than the song of many birds.”)

As agreeing with that proverb, firstly, I found something to eat.

Guryong-Po falls under Pohang city. In Pohang, Gwamaegi is the most famous food.
Gwamaegi is the dried herring in the sunshine.

Having the information looked up on the Internet, I ordered Gwamaegi.

I hoped that because Gwamaegi is the most representative food of Guryong-Po,
I thought I could taste it in any restaurant but...

The host, middle aged woman in heavy dialect said “Gwamaegi is no time now”

She told Gwamaegi become tasted while repeat freezing and melting itself by sea air starting from the winter to the March. On second thoughts, if it is dried under this scorching sun, it could be dried off completely. Although I wasn’t able to eat Gwamaegi rolling up with laver, chives, garlic, seaweed and red chili-pepper paste with vinegar as the host mentioned, I wish this winter to eat Gwamaegi

The first menu in Guryong-Po is the blowfish soup. The hot blowfish soup, various seafoods and fresh vegetables looked simple. However, it was a great dish as though somebody shout toward us like “Gwamaegi isn’t everything, here”
We have finished the meal. Then, let’s experience Guryong-Po .

First of all, we visited a Japanese traditional house street beside of Guryong-Po post office.

Guryong-Po used to be a calm fishing village to the Joseon Dynasty period. But Guryong-Po had emerged as a fishing base during the Japanese Ruling Era. The Japanese fisheries businessman called Dogawa Yasbro persuaded the Japanese Government General of Korea to make a port, and after harbor be formed, many Japanese who worked at fisheries had entered to Guryong-Po.

It had been packed with many Japanese traditional houses at the new land according to the breakwater and a picture of that period has still remained since.Watching houses that still remained approximately 50 including a Japanese floor mat, papering door with Japanese magazine, the window painted with Mount Fuji and etc, I was able to see Japanese life style at that time. We headed to Guryong-Po leaving a Japanese traditional house street.

The dove-grey cloud covering hot sunlight and the murmuring waves that sometimes sapphire bright and sometimes deep blue bright, the face of middle aged man standing on the dock and throwing the fishing rod..

According to Guryong-Po which is endless calm and cozy, just like mother’s arms, we head forward Guryong-Po beach. Is this the feeling this is summer? Guryong-Po beach is a truly vivid and bright picture of the summer as much as I can get into the water now.

Guryong-Po beach is selected as one of the best beach in Korea. Here is the information about the Guryong-Po beach. (400m extension, 50m width, total 6 thousand peyong of sand beach and accommodating up to 10 thousand people per day)

From the happiness by watching gorgeous seashore to the merit by eating fresh seafoods as much as I like!

Here rich with entertainment, spectacle and eating, Guryong-Po beach is also famous for the best fishing area in the east sea.

It will be nice to spend your vacation here with your friends or family because the accommodations are well equipped. The next spot is Homigot which is one of the representative tourist spot in Pohang. Heading to there, I took a picture of beautiful fishing villages.

This is the Homigot.First, As one of the best sightseeing place, I introduce some pictures.
Homigot is also one of the favorite places where people visit to see sunrise at the New Year.
Watching win-win hand which is famous symbol of Homigot, I eagerly wanted to see the red sun rising on the hand.

There are two win-win hands. The right hand is at the sea and the left hand is on the ground, which means ‘Let’s grab both of two hands tightly in new millennium and make the society living together.’ It was so beautiful symbolic structure that doesn’t need to be explained more.

And here is the place where the first Korea lighthouse was built. There were so many exciting things in this lighthouse such as Lighthouse life hall, Navigation experience room, Lighthouse history hall, Marine products hall, the open air exhibition hall, the theme park and etc. Like this, they said it gives visitors good experiences.

The clock is already going to 7 PM. And the sunny skies for a while is getting darker like the rain pouring down. I went to the near hotel with the unforgettable memories at Guryoung-Po and Homigot in my mind and camera, expecting tomorrow’s visiting area, Yangdong-village.

It’s the Jinbbang(Korea traditional bread) and Kuksu(Korea noodle) instead of dinner on the way to the hotel. I was thought it was light meal but I was amazed its taste and quantity.

On a closer acquaintance, it was second to none in special restaurant.Because of excellent taste, good heart and cheap price, I could finish happy dinner like found unexpected treasure.

The day even I didn’t know how I spend was exciting and happy!Imagining spot of tomorrow, Yangdong-village where I’m going to visit, and what pleasure is wating, I have finished one day.
